Kyle is located south of Austin and just north of San Marcos on I-35 in Hays County. At its site the Balcones Escarpment meets the blackland prairie; to the east there is farming and to the west, ranching. In the early 1990s Kyle reported a population of 2,256, with seventy-nine businesses. Kyle is part of the Austin-San Marcos, Texas metro area.
