Meridian is located northwest of Waco along Hwy 6 on the banks of the Bosque River near Lake Whitney.
Fourth of July, 1854, this town was named as seat of the newly created Bosque County, named for its location on 100th meridian.
During the 1980s Meridian's economy centered on ranching and on shipping agricultural products. At that time hunting was also important, as was publishing and the manufacture of clothing and of refuse containers.
The city sponsors the Bosque Valley Arts and Crafts Festival each July and a street dance in October, as well as the annual 'Top of the Hill Country' National Championship Barbecue Cook-Off and a Fair on the Square.
In 1990 the population of Meridian was 1,390.
