Cove Fort is located on US 15 in western Utah in Millard County, on the western fringes of the Fishlake National Forest and is the western terminus for I-70.
Since the mid-1800s, the actual fort provided sanctuary from hostile Indians (the Black Hawk War commenced in 1865), or from severe weather conditions. In addition to private parties traveling that route, it afforded some degree of safety to carriers of the U.S. mail, operators of the Deseret Telegraph, agents of the stagecoach line, and freighters who sought the refuge and convenience of that place. A renovation was completed in 1992.
