Delta is located in Millard County in central Utah along US 50/6 near Fort Deseret State Park. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,123, an increase of 125 since 1990.
A gentleman named John Steele submitted the name Delta, due to the definition of Delta being "a fertile area where a river's mouth empties." About this same time in 1911, the Millard County Commission granted incorporation to the Town of Delta. In 1940, after many years of growth in Delta, then Utah Governor Henry H. Blood declared "Delta to be a City of the third-class rather than a town," and it often goes by "Delta City" now.
