When a group of inspired art enthusiasts first entered the old Eley Garage on Park Avenue back in 1975, what they initially found was a little mud and a lot of slush. "I thought it was horrible, it was such a mess," recalls Ogden resident Marilyn Modling, who was among the five intruders. "We had to climb over the back door and the police came after us -- they thought we were breaking in." The groups intent, however, was a far cry from vandalism or even simple trespassing. They had a more impressive goal: Build a non-profit art center midst the depressed economy of mid-1970s Park City. Within a year, however, that dream would materialize into the Kimball Art Center, a community art center featuring three exhibition galleries, studio classrooms, a darkroom, jewelry lab, plus a ceramics studio with pottery wheels and kilns.
