The monument covers roughly 8,000 acres and sits at an elevation of 6,500 feet above sea level. It is 42 miles west of Blanding.
Over the years, water has eroded the stone walls to form three massive bridges. Cass Hite, a gold prospector, was the first European to discover the bridges in 1908. The longest and highest of the bridges is called The Sipapu Bridge. It is 268 feet long, 31 feet wide, 53 feet thick and 220 feet high. It is the second largest natural bridge in the world and the oldest National Park service site.
