In Tooele, Wendover is located on the Nevada border along I-80 near the Bonneville Salt Flats, where the B.L.M. offers the automobile land speed record speedway.
The salt flats were a source of table salt, magnesium and potash, which reduced it from 96,000 acres in 1926 to about 25,000 today. Racing, driving, and even walking is limited to B.L.M.-designated roads, because the salt crust has become so thin in places.
There is no overnighting at the Flats, and Wendover (approx. 1,250 population) has the nearest lodging.
