Suzanne Nees began working with stone in 1989. She is currently working on a series of illustrations in sumi ink along with her work in stone. After spending several years training in granite sculpture at a professional stone carving studio in Japan, she returned to the United States and worked as a resident artist at the Carving Studio in West Rutland, Vermont. In 1996 she established a studio in Blacksburg, Virginia. Nees also exhibits in Japan and is a member of Fukashi Gallery.
