Danville is located on the North Carolina state line in southcentral Virginia. It is situated along Highway 58/360, on the banks of the Dan River in the Central Region of the state.
One of the largest tobacco auction centers in the world, Danville's six auction warehouses boast a combined floor space of one million square feet; visitors can watch auctions from mid-August to mid-November.
Reflecting Danville's tobacco and textile heritage, Millionaires Row Historic District along Main Street includes vintage examples of Victorian & Edwardian residential architecture. A few of these private homes are open to the public during the Christmas Walking Tour. Brochures outlining a walking tour of Millionaires Row and a driving tour of Civil War sites, as well as schedules, maps and tours of auction warehouses, are available at the chamber of commerce and visitor center.
