A working farm established in 1619, Flowerdew Hundred resides on one of the earliest original land grants in Virginia. A museum, housed in an 1850s school, exhibits a collection of artifacts revealing the history of the site and early Virginia colonization. An 18th-century wind-powered gristmill, commemorating the first windmill in English North America, stands on a ridge overlooking the James River. Guided tours are available; picnicking is permitted. Open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 1-4pm, April 1-November 15--last tour at 3:30pm; by appointment the rest of the year.
