Search Hopewell Virginia

Hopewell is located in Prince George County 22 miles SW of Richmond between Petersburg and Williamsburg along Highway 10 on the banks of the James River near Prequile National Wildlife Refuge. It is in the Central Region of the state. Hopewell is an outgrowth of old City Point, which was founded in 1613 as the second English settlement in America. Diversified industry has brought prosperity to this quiet seaport. Merchant's Hope Church, 6 miles southeast on Hwy 641, is an example of 1657 Colonial architecture. Adventure Cruises Inc offers breakfast and dinner excursions which afford a view of the area's plantations and Civil War sites. A brochure detailing a walking tour of the City Point National Historic District is available at the visitors center. The center also offers walking and driving tour brochures of the Crescent Hills area; a self-guided Virginia Civil War Trail driving tour is available April-October.
