Grand Isle is one of the Lake Champlain Islands in Lake Champlain. It is connected by ferry with the New York side of the lake and by Highway 2 with Vermont. Its area is 35 square miles.
Chartered on October 27, 1779, its population is 1,955, according to the 2000 U.S. Census.
Hyde Log Cabin, a State Historic Site, is just north of the village of Grand Isle on Route 2. Built in 1783, it is considered to be the oldest log cabin in the country. Now restored, it houses a Vermont Historical Society collection.
