Jay is located in Orleans County, 10 miles west ofNewport and seven miles from the Canadian border. It lies along Highway 242 near Jay Peak Ski Resort and Big Falls. The community is named after the statesman John Jay. Known for its winter sports facilities, the town offers access to year-round recreation in Jay Peak State Forest, which comprises the southwestern corner of town.
