Dry Falls was created when Lake Missoula, created during the last Ice Age and covering much of present day Montana, overflowed its ice dam and surged westward to the Pacific Ocean.
The falls was once the largest waterfall known to have existed on earth with 3.5 miles of sheer cliffs and a 400 foot drop. By comparison, Niagara Falls is one mile wide and drops 165 feet.
Dry Falls Interpretive Center is located at the top of the canyon, half a mile from the Scenic Overlook.
