The community of East Wenatchee lies across the Columbia River and in a different county (Douglas) from its larger neighbor Wenatchee.
Nestled between orchards, wheat fields and the Columbia, the city is a hub for day trips to a wide variety of recreational and scenic areas.
For many years, a somewhat unreliable ferry service was the only transportation across the river. In 1907, the first highway bridge built across the Columbia was opened. It also supported an irrigation pipeline from the main canal on the west side. Today this historic bridge is a pedestrian and bike bridge which links the cities of East Wenatchee and Wenatchee through an 11-mile trail, the "Apple Capital Recreation Loop."
