The Spokane River and falls have always been a source of tremendous power. The city of Spokane is the only city in the U.S. that can boast of such a feature in its downtown.
The Spokane Falls, like much of eastern Washington, were shaped by some of the most incredible floods ever to occur on earth. The falls were a prime fishing site for many area Native American tribes and were also mentioned in many early accounts of explorers and travelers to the region.
