More then 1.5 million steelhead and 1.5 million Chinook salmon are reared annually at the fish hatchery facility at Wells Dam.
The site features a 6,000-foot spawning channel, an exhibit about the life cycle of the salmon and a viewing window to a fish ladder.
Other displays deal with American Indian and pioneer history and Fort Okanogan. Also available for viewing are the 160-ton spillway gates, the 230,000 volt switchyard and the turbine generators that can produce more then 840 megawatts of electricity. Exterior walkways provide views of water rushing through the spillgates, although much of the year water is diverted to the powerhouse.
