Rhinelander is located in Oneida County (of which it is the county seat) north of Wausau, between Merrill and Eagle River at the junction of US Highway 8 and Hwy 17 on the banks of the Wisconsin River near jTomahawk, Crandon, Northern Highland State Forest, and Nicolet National Forest. The Nicolet Area Technical College, Lake Julia Campus is located in Rhinelander.
