After the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area was established in 1966, the construction of the Yellowtail Dam was completed by the Bureau of Reclamation. Afterbay Lake, below the Dam, is a great spot if you like to view wildlife and fish for trout. Tours of Yellowtail Dam are available through the summer by contacting the Visitor's Center in Lovell or Fort Smith.
Afterbay campground, adjacent to the Yellowtail Dam, contains 29 sites that are open year-round. Black Canyon is five miles south of Ok-A-Beh boat ramp and contains 10 tent sites open from late spring to early fall. Cottonwood Camp (406-666-2460) has 14 sites for cabins or trailers, 17 sites for RVs, and two acres for tent camping.
