The Bridger-Teton National Forest, Fremont County and Wind River Mountains comprise the eastern border of Sublette County. Green River actually begins in central Sublette County, and runs south through Lincoln County and Sweetwater County into Utah and then into the state of Colorado. Daniel Fish Hatchery is located in Daniel west of Pinedale. Gannett Peak, the highest peak in the state, is located in the northern part of Sublette County in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. This forest is also located on the western border of Sublette and Lincoln County.
The county seat of Sublette County, Wyoming, is Pinedale. There are many other small towns scattered throughout the area. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 5,811, an increase of 968 over the 1990 census.
